aug 14, 1861 - Aboriginal Protection Act of 1861

Description:

The Victorian colonial government passes the Protection Act, which is the first law of it's kind restricting the movements and freedoms of Indigenous freedoms. This Act leads to the establishment of Protection Boards and was the beginning of the institutions that allowed the Stolen Generation to take place. Other colonies pass similar acts at about the same time.
