Description:
Thomas More was convicted of treason and beheaded by King Henry VIII in 1535 for opposition to the King's separation from the Catholic Church, and for his reluctance to acknowledge Henry as Supreme Head of the Church of England. Additionally, he denounced the annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. During his execution, he is claimed to have said, "I die the King's good servant, and God's first."
