Harry S. Truman became president following the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt. His most important foreign policy achievements were the Marshall Plan and the Truman Doctrine. The former was a series of investments in Western Europe to rebuild following WW2. The latter is the doctrine of containment that remained US foreign policy for decades afterwards.
