Description:
On June 1, 1690, when Alonso's expedition arrived in the Tejas villages, the first Spanish mission was dedicated and named San Franciso de los Tejas. This mission didn't last long but it accomplished two things.- Its presence strengthened Spain's claim to Texas.
- It made Spain realize that a successful colony needed families to settle the land.
