A day after the end of the Olympics in which members of the Entente and former members of the Central Powers played cheerfully together in various sporting events came the 10th anniversary of the Weltkrieg. No one would have guessed how the political landscape could change over the course of a single decade. The war that would be over by Christmas would go on to end the lives of 16 million young men and drag on for 7 years as predicted by the unifier of Germany Otto von Bismarck when he said, ""If the country is well ruled, the coming war may be averted; if it is badly ruled, that war may become a Seven Years War!"
