The Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917, is considered to be the greatest moment for the Canadians in WW1. It was the first time all four Canadian divisions of the CEF had fought together in the First World War. Some say that it was the battle that made Canadians see themselves as an independent nation instead of a colony of Great Britain. The Canadians were able to take the ridge from the Germans which the British and French were unable to do. They also were able to take the ridge within three days. There were around 10,500 Canadian casualties whereas the Germans had lost all their strength including 4,000 prisoners.
