may 26, 1918 - Georgia Declares Independence
Description:
During the chaos of the Russian Civil War, Georgia emerged as a Menshevik stronghold, firmly establishing a potentially grave threat to White Forces in the Caucasus and Don-Kuban region who were only just beginning to regroup. However, the Georgian leadership quickly declared their new country's neutrality in the Civil War. Later it announced itself as a German protectorate allowing the Germans a route to the oil fields in Baku to the dismay of the Ottomans who had competing interests.
