John 'Jack' Reed, an American journalist working for the Socialist magazine The Masses, departs New York in August with his wife and co-worker Louise Bryant to write on the post-revolutionary political climate. Arriving in Petrograd shortly after the Kornilov affair, they were witness to the run-up to the October Revolution and the fall of the Winter Palace.
