oct 14, 1930 - Honduran "Great Purge"
Description:
Since the peasant revolt, a revolutionary council was established to administer the nation and purge US influence, including anyone with US sympathies in the administration. Honduras’ “Great Purge” left her military somewhat headless and created a paranoid atmosphere in the political world. This purge did remove many who had affiliations with the USA and in particular with the United Fruit Company, but was also viewed as an act of bloodthirsty tyranny by her neighbours and those abroad. Despite this Honduras still remained under the nominal umbrella of the US “Monroe Doctrine”.
