On 9th June 1925 Spanish forces under the direct command of the Prime Minister crossed the border into the British held territory of Gibraltar. Despite having lost control of Gibraltar over 200 years ago, reconquest of 'The Rock' remained on the Spanish agenda ever since, a goal previously seen unattainable in the face of the ever growing British Empire. The declaration of the 'Socialist Union of Britain'. The march on Gibraltar was not a pre-planned endeavor, but instead an act of political opportunism by Rivera in an attempt to further secure his regime by finally restoring Spanish sovereignty to the Rock of Gibraltar.
