aug 3, 1667 - Si-Teh-Cah

Description:

The folklore of the Koop Ticutta, people talk of a race of red haired, hairy giants living in the woods called the Si-Teh-Cah. They were generally quite docile as long as you left them alone and lived on the left side of Humboldt Lake, Nevada and the Koop Ticutta, lived on the east side. One day a Si-Teh-Cah kidnapped and, in some stories ate or raped a woman. The Koop Ticutta, people planned to kill them. They tricked the Si-Teh-Cah to go into Lovelock cave, promosing more women, they then trapped them in with heavy logs, tying the logs together with rabbit muscle and set them ablaze, suffocating them. Based on the details on some parts of the story, like were the Koop Ticutta, lived and using rabbit muscle as rope, would make the story most likely take place in the mid 1600s. In 1854, guano miners were in Lovelock cave and found the skeleton of a 8 ft tall man with long arms and a "big jaw" under a "burnt material", although they left them alone, fearing the Koop Ticutta people would curse them for trespassing. Due to this, they only collected a jaw and a skull. The jaw and skull are now in the Humboldt County Museum in Nevada. The reason why they haven't been examined is because the first nations people of Nevada consider it a sacred object.
