jun 18, 1979 - SALT II Signed
Description:
SALT II was a continuation of negotiations, as agreed to in the interim agreement of SALT I, and began in November 1972. The goal for this set of negotiations was to create a long-term treaty for offensive weapon systems. There were 3 parts to the final agreement: cruise missile constraints, mobile ICBM limits, and qualitative constraints on ICBMs were set aside to undergo further negotiations in SALT III; guidelines for future negotiations were created; and a treaty was put in force through 1985. The SALT II treaty was signed on June 18, 1979.
