Description:

Slave trade became increasing popular during the 1850s. The period witnessed many settlers establishing plantations, particularly in Brazil. Thus, the volume of the trade increased since they would work in the plantations. Furthermore, because of the increased popularity of the trade, other countries became interested in the trade and wanted to control it . Brazil became one of the leading destinations of the slaves, with estimates indicating that 2,500-6,000 slaves were captured and transported to the country each year to work in the sugar plantations .
