sep 28, 1918 - Hitler Spared by British Soldier

Description:

On this day the Allied forces captured the town of Marcoign, France. Some of the British soldiers there decided to spare unarmed and injured enemy soldiers out of pity for their situation. Hitler was one of the soldiers spared.

This fact was found out in 1938 when British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain went to Hitler's country retreat to conduct last-ditch peace negotiations. Pointing at one of the soldiers in a painting (pictured) Hitler said "here is the man that almost shot me". The soldier was later identified as Pte Tandey and confirmed to be at the capture of Marcoign, lending historical credibility to Hitler's statements.

If Hitler had died at this point, it is unlikely the Nazis would have risen to power, as Hitler did many things to take the group from a fringe extreme to mainstream politics. Many of the events right of this point in the timeline would never have occurred and the world would be a very different place.
