jan 2, 1968 - Tet is a very important holiday for the Vietnamese people, and the North Vietnamese called for a seven day ceasefire, so everyone can celebrate this special event. The United States agreed, and stood down. After the ceasefire was agreed on and put in place, the North Vietnamese planned and carried out a major offensive involving attacks on major cities, towns, and US bases.
