jan 1, 1680 - Pueblo Revolt
Description:
Caused by Spanish being too controlling (enslaving, conversion). Pope led, uniting many tribes together (used Spanish as lingua franca).Within a few weeks, a century of colonization in the area had been destroyed.
The Pueblo Revolt was the most complete victory for Native Americans over Europeans and the only wholesale expulsion of settlers in the history of North America. But Spain had learned a lesson. In the eighteenth century, colonial authorities adopted a more tolerant attitude toward traditional religious practices and made fewer demands on Indian labor.
