mar 1, 1868 - Invasion of Haiti

Description:

A detachment of four gunboats of the CS Navy destroyed merchant ships outside of Port-au-Prince, before a troop of marines landed on the docks and began torching the city as they approached the government building. Amidst instability, the Haitian government disintegrated. A French ship off the coast held the dictator of Haiti captive after he was captured by his own people and handed over. All in all, the build-up of almost a year paid off in one day when Haiti was decidedly controlled by the CSA. Rhett was beside himself back home, declaring that "no state build on the shoulders of a Negro can exist in perpetuity."
