may 30, 1819 - Florida Purchase

Description:

With the Spanish operating only loose control over the region and the United States at war with the local Seminole tribes, Spain recognizes that their hold on Florida is limited.

With Florida yet again having fallen under rebel control, the Spanish sell the Colonies of East and West Florida to the United State for 3 million dollars.

While originally, the two colonies were established as separate territories, however the West Florida territory was later divided between Louisiana, Mississippi and East Florida; with the East Florida Territory becoming simply Florida. Lands east of the Pearl River are transferred to Louisiana, while the eastern border of Mississippi continues to the coast, which becomes the border between it and Florida.
