Most of the supporters which had existed under Rhett felt rather threatened by Longstreet, who dismantled any system which could oppose him and his grip on power. His vision of the Confederacy meant that loyalty went further than status, and many aristocrats and Planters were booted from Congress in favour of those loyal to Longstreet who would later go on to form the Whig Party.Added to timeline:
