Description:

The paper would be passed between two opposite rows of cylinders that contain the printing plate with the design/type on it, Unlike flatbed printing which printed onto a flat surface. It was mainly used by newspapers for longer runs and it was quite an efficient method. However, the paper from the press wasn't very strong so the paper would tear but it was possible to transfer up to 4 colours.
