feb 5, 1933 - Murder

Description:

On 25 January, 174 skirmishers from Côte d'Ivoire landed to watch the demonstration. Several rapes of children aged 13 to 14 are recorded. On 3 February, a skirmisher, Moussia Diarra, killed twelve Togolese and wounded three with rifles, without a recognised reason: the governor invoked "a coup de folie ".
During the trial of the participants in the revolt and the Duawo, entire villages and neighbourhoods are convicted. They must collectively pay thousands of francs in fines and perform several thousand days of forced labour. Entire runs of several of Dahomey’s newspapers (relatively free and deeply critical of many French policies) were seized and the printing presses destroyed.
