jul 6, 1415 - 1415: Death of Jan Hus, a Bohemian priest and Catholic reformer

Description:

Jan Hus was a Bohemian priest and Catholic reformer who spoke against indulgences and the corrupt lifestyles of the Roman Catholic Church's clergy. This greatly angered Church officials, so in 1415, they summoned him to the Council of Constance, promising him safety and assurance. However, soon after he arrived, Hus was arrested for heresy. He was imprisoned in a underground cell next to a sewer system, where he was fed very little. When Hus refused to recant his teachings, the infuriated church officials sentenced him to death and burned him at the stake on July 6, 1415.
