John Steinbeck received the Nobel Prize in Literature from the Swedish King Gustaf VI Adolf in Stockholm Concert Hall. He recieved it, not for one book in particular, but for "his realistic and imaginative writings, combining as they do sympathetic humour and keen social perception."
