Description:

Reduced expression levels of GAD67, a GABAergic marker, have been reported in the adult mPFC following adolescent THC exposure which induced persistent prefrontal GABA hypofunction (Renard et al, 2017) and and these GAD67 reductions due to adolecent THC exposure have also been reported in selective PV and CCK containing PFC interneuron populations (Zamberletti et al, 2014).

The PFC sends dense glutamatergic, regulatory projections to VTA DA neuron (Sesack et al, 1992). Thus, cortical disinhibition induced by THC exposuremay be sufficient to induce cortical overdrive onto VTA DA neurons,
leading to a hyper-DAergic phenotype
