jan 1, 1636 - nipping irons
Description:
Only one example noted: 1636 three shovel shaftes and a chesfatt xijd, and nipping irons, xijd, Allerton near Bradford (LRS1/88). Nippings were the short ends of thread nipped off when a join is made but the context in this case is not helpful and the meaning remains uncertain. The editor suggested tongs or pincers.
