Description:
This was the royalty payable on mineral rights held by the king, often included in the terms of a lease. 1538 <i> and to pay the kings rent for the cole myne of Broume More yerely during the seid terme of xij yeres </i>, Manston (YRS50/111). When the manor of Rothwell was sold in 1630 it was agreed that the <i> yearlie rent of 40s issuing to the King … for Colemines </i>should be paid out of copyhold land (MD178).
