Description:
A kind of fur; squirrel skins from Calabria in Italy, according to Veale. She notes that tolls were paid in Paris on <i>escureux de Calabre</i> in 1296 but that the first skins to arrive in England were acquired later, from Hanseatic and Flemish merchants (EMV217): 1366 <i>unum goune curtum furratam cum calabr’</i>, Arncliffe in Craven (SS4/81); 1444 <i>et j nigram chimbre furr’ cum calaber</i>, Beverley (SS30/99); 1582 <i>Item for a m calibre tewing vjs, </i>York (YRS119/63).
