jan 1, 1489 - brigandine nails
Description:
The brigandine or brigander was body armour, a sort of tunic covered with iron rings or plates, often in two parts. In an OED reference of 1465 it is described as J peyr of Bregandyrns kevert with … gylt naile. The nails that were being imported into Hull in the fifteenth century may have been for the ‘brigander makers’ based in York: 1453 1 bar’ nayles 8 0 0, Hull (YRS144/13); 1489-90 brygandyne nallys, Hull (YRS144/209).
