Description:
Linked with ‘crumb’ in the sense of crooked; almost certainly a reference to the in-turned or ‘curly’ horns of a cow, as in ‘the cow with the crumpled horn’ in the nursery rhyme. 1547 <i>one quie crumble headed</i>, Kippax (Th19/184); 1578 <i>one blacke crome headed cowe,</i> Hampsthwaite (SS104/127).
