Description:

This rare term occurs in the inventory of a Leeds clothier. The item is listed in the <i>Lomehowse</i> along with other implements involved in the finishing process: 1576 <i>viij course of handles … iiij fresynge stones, one shearborde coverynge</i> (Th4/164). The stones may have been of pumice, used to soften and smooth the surface of the cloth.
