jan 1, 1465 - lind
Description:
The lime tree or the wood of the lime tree, also called the linden. It is found in early place-names, e.g. 1190-1202 Lyndholme , Hatfield (PNWR1/8) and also in the description of a boundary between Silkstone and Barnsley: c. 1090 per arborem quandam que vocatur Anglice Lind (YRS25/19). In 1337, offences in Sowerby wood near Halifax included the illegal taking of lynde for making sadeltres (WYAS689). Small amounts appear to have been imported from the Baltic: 1465 2 M waynskottes … 3 C claphoult … 12 lyndbordes , Hull (YRS144/80).
