Description:
A verb which had the meaning of ‘to reserve’ or leave standing when applied to trees in a wood that was being felled. It may be from ‘waive’ in the sense of setting aside. 1527 <i>Also the said Richard Beaumont to leve them abilly waived after the use and custom of the contree</i>, Denby (MD93).
