Description:
Many specialist anvils were developed over the centuries and this was the name given to an anvil with two pointed ends. It is recorded in a York combsmith’s will 1445 <i>unum stethy de ferro vocato bighorn</i> (SS30/116). In 1592 Richard Gill of Eckington, smith, had a <i>beck horn</i> in his smithy (IH).
