Description:
Probably a pan in which something aromatic would be burnt, an abbreviation of ‘perfuming pan’. 1565 <i>two fomynge pannes</i>, Temple Newsam (YAJ15/97); 1591 <i>The Chamb’ of Estate ... j perfuming-pan</i>, Skipton Castle (Whit2/336). Whitaker noted that perfuming pans and chamber pots were in all the principal chambers.
