They were imported from Scotland in the fifteenth century: 1465 <i>1 C 15 gaytefelle</i>, Hull (YRS144/81) and a toll was charged when they entered York: 1510 <i>Item of ylke hundredth of ... gayte skynez ... 1d</i> (YRS106/32).
