Originally a bundle or pack of wool and then used as a measure. The OED has references from 1425 but the term occurs infrequently in Yorkshire: 1714 <i>As for the prices of Wooll There is John Stocks of Hallifax Give eighteen shillings A todd for Long Wooll within A good mile of Horncastle</i> (MD43).
