Description:
Noted in the inventory of a wealthy widow who possibly had a dove-cote. 1585 <i>Item Dove donge iijs</i>, South Cave (Kaner132). The dung of birds and animals formerly had a number of uses, and in tanning it was made into a paste which helped to soften the hides. See bate (1).Added to timeline:
