Description:
A light coat of armour composed of small metal plates which were riveted to each other or to a lining of some stout material (OED). 1498 <i> my best saddill and bridill, a jestron a salet and a swerde </i>, Leeds (SS53/148). The OED headword is ‘jazerant’. Rosemary Milward recorded <i> jestorne </i> in Derbyshire (RMG32).
