Description:

In 1562 the inventory of a Kendal cloth-dresser listed the following items: <i>chayres, stolles, and cardstocks iijs. Stockcards and hande cards iijs iiijd</i> (SS26/156). The cards were used in pairs and the ‘stock’ may have been a bench or a solid piece of wood to which one of the cards was attached.
