Description:

Hindenburg died aged 87. Hitler took over supreme power. He declared himself the Fuhrer, combining the powers of the president and the chancellor. Every soldier was forced to make an oath of loyalty to him.

Later that month, a propaganda-fuelled plebiscite confirmed Hitler as Fuhrer with a 90% majority. The Weimar Republic ended, and Hitler's Third Reich began. It was a police state run by Himmler's SS, Heydrich's security service and Heydrich's Gestapo - the secret police.
