feb 14, 1926 - Bamberg Conference

Description:

Hitler had appointed a leader for each constituency of Germany in order to make the Nazi party national. However, the distance was giving each leader too much power to focus on their own beliefs.

Strasser and Goebbels were based in northern, industrial areas, and were focusing on the socialist aspect of the Nazi party. Hitler was based in a southern, rural area, and was focusing on the nationalist aspect of the Nazi party.

At the conference, based in Bamberg, which was in the south, Hitler made it seem that the socialist wing was becoming communist. Communists were the Nazis' enemies, so Goebbels abandoned Strasser and was won over to Hitler's side.

As a result of the Bamberg Conference:
- Hitler's leadership was made clear
- Strasser became untrustworthy (and was later murdered in 1934 during a Nazi clear-out)
- the 'socialist' Nazi principles were weakened so Hitler had more freedom
- the Nazi party was better organised
