Description:
Stresemann signed the Locarno Pact, which was a treaty between Germany, France, Britain, Italy and Belgium. It was different to the Treaty of Versailles in that Germany had been able to agree on it on equal terms with the Allies.
The main points of the Pact were:
- Germany accepted its 1919 border with France
- France promised peace with Germany
- the Rhineland would be temporarily demilitarised
- talks about German membership of the League of Nations would open
Positives of the Locarno Pact were:
- war with Europe was less likely
- Germany was treated as an eqal
Negatives of the Locarno Pact were:
- extreme politicians were angry that the borders were now confirmed
