feb 4, 1899 - Philippine- American War
Emelio Aguinaldo led the fight for independence against America. They believed they were fighting for the same principle of self rule that inspired the colonist. Filipino rebels relied guerilla warfare. American response was fast and violent. Extreme measures were used to crush the rebellion. Us soldiers and the Spanish in Cuba gathered civilians into overcrowded concentration camps. In the spring of 1901, the Americans captured Aguinaldo. His capture didn't end fighting immediately, but it did signal the beginning of the end of the rebellion.
