After almost a year of continuous fighting between the German and British armies they met in the air for a massive battle. On September 7th 1940, the German Luftwaffe started a 57 night consecutive bombing of mainland Britain that would last all throughout the fall. The battle in skies showed the resilience of the Royal British Air Force and because of the resiliency, Hitler had to pull the German air force out of the battle. Because of the Britain success the Germans could never gain a mainland invasion of Britain.Added to timeline:
