apr 9, 1866 - Civil Rights Act of 1866

Description:

This act was the first by the federal law to define citizenship, and claim that all citizens are equally protected by the law. It was mainly intended to protect African American's. Because of this, racist groups emerged (Ku Klux Klan, etc) and started targeting and discriminating Blacks. Since 1866, it has been illegal to discriminate in jobs and society due to their race.
