jan 1, 1866 - Radical Republicans gain control of Congress
The Radical Republicans begin to vote to override the president’s original vetoes, and were successful. They were able to pass the Freedmen’s Bureau. These people supported the equality of every man living in the U.S. and passed laws regarding their justice. Slowly, because of the Radical Republicans gaining control of Congress, the African Americans had more and more rights as the white men.
