Emmett Till was brutalized when he talked "smart' to a white woman. That night two white men kidnapped the young boy, torturing and killing him and threw his body in a river. His body was so deformed that they had a hard time identifying his body, a problem which the murderers exploited. His mother despite this insisted on an open casket so the world could see his damaged body. This sparked anger in all communities and left the national media with indisputable evidence on southern race relations
