dec 25, 1955 - Offers for the Aswan Dam

Description:

Nasser planned to dam the Nile at Aswan to reduce flooding, provide water for irrigation and provide hydroelectric power.

After the Arms Deal with the USSR, Britain and the USA offered to fund the dam. They wanted Egypt as an ally of the West in the Cold War, and they wanted to retain influence in the Middle East because of the oil there.
