oct 14, 1953 - Qibya Incident
Description:
This was a reprisal for an Israeli woman and her two children who were killed in their home. Jordan, which was occupying the West Bank, had been trying to stop Fedayeen raids to avoid Israeli retaliation (despite saying the opposite in public).
Sharon led troops to the village of Qibya in the West Bank. They killed 69 villagers and razed much of the village to the ground.
The massacre was condemned by the UN and many Jewish communities worldwide. Afterwards, the USA withheld from Israel aid worth $75 million.
