may 4, 1970 - Kent State
Description:
On May 4, 1970, 4 unarmed students were killed and 9 unarmed students were injured from a school shooting by the national guard in response to a protest at the school. The protest was in response to the US involvement and bombing of Cambodia that had recently been announced by President Richard Nixon and increased the already high tensions from protests to the Vietnam War. Students who were shot were unarmed and involved in the protest and others who were shot were simply walking by and observing the protest. This created a 4 million student strike all throughout the United States.
